How do I purchase admission to the Garden and Butterfly Bungalow?
Admission tickets can be purchased at the door only. Members receive free admission to the Garden, but receive discounted $2 Butterfly Bungalow tickets for those included on the membership in addition to four guests. Non-members are required to purchase Garden admission tickets in addition to $3 Butterfly Bungalow tickets per person.
Are packages available for groups?
To inquire about exclusive packages for 20 people or more, please call 704-829-1294. General admission discounts are available for self-guided groups of 15 or more. Click here to learn more.
What do I need to know before arriving?
Please refrain from wearing bug spray or using hand sanitizer for the safety of the butterflies. We ask that guests do not touch or hold the caterpillars or butterflies as they are very fragile. We also ask that guests do not touch or pick the flowers or plants as eggs, caterpillars or butterflies may be hiding among them.
What kinds of butterflies and plants will I see?
The Bungalow will be home to native butterfly species including: Monarch, Painted Lady, American Painted Lady, Black Swallowtail, Tiger Swallowtail, Giant Swallowtail, Gulf Fritillary and Red Admiral. Eggs (ovum), Caterpillars (larvae) and chrysalids (pupae) will also be present. Plants include host and nectar plants. Click here for a plant list.
What if it rains or if there is bad weather?
The Garden is open rain or shine, but in the event of extreme weather including dangerous storms, the Garden may close. Please note that the Butterfly Bungalow is not protected from the elements. Call 704-829-1294 prior to your visit if you have concerns.
Can I bring my camera?
General photography with a handheld camera is encouraged whenever the Butterfly Bungalow is open. Photographers can gain early entry with cameras and monopods only on Wednesdays June 6 through August 24 for one hour from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. by booking reservations in advance for $30 per non-member or $21 per members. Tripods and off-camera lighting equipment will not be permitted.
Is the Butterfly Bungalow handicap and stroller accessible?
Handicap and stroller accessible routes are present throughout the Garden, but please note that the route to the Butterfly Bungalow is a natural, hard-packed surface. Standard wheelchairs and walkers are permitted in the Bungalow. We ask that strollers be parked outside of the Bungalow due to space limitations inside.The Garden does not provide wheelchairs or strollers onsite.
