For more than 40 years Sarasota, Florida artist Jamie Kirkell has mastered his art of painting on silk to exquisite levels. Now he’s bringing an exhibition of his work to Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. His current work incorporates abstracts of floral silk scarves and large tapestries that will be on display in the Garden’s Visitor Pavilion. Beginning in the 1960s, Jamie studied Batik in Java under the direction of Indonesia’s Master Batik artist Bambang Oetoro. Kirkell’s work has been on display at museums, botanical gardens and art centers throughout the United States.
