BELMONT, N.C. – Jeff Wuilliez, who spent 20 years developing horticultural displays in the Caribbean and several more years at the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo, NC, has joined Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden as its director of horticulture and facilities.
A native of northern Virginia, Wuilliez owned a botanical design company that focused on the design, installation and maintenance of gardens at high-end hotels and residences in a range of Caribbean locales, including St. Lucia, Jamaica, St. Kitts, Trinidad and Tobago and others. As gardens, greenhouse and facilities manager at the Elizabethan Gardens in the Outer Banks, Wuilliez led a staff in maintaining the gardens and its grounds, including 80-year-old specimen Crape Myrtles and a Camellia collection of more than 500 trees.
As director of horticulture and facilities at DSBG, Wuilliez will be responsible for leading staff in maintenance of more than 30 acres of annual and perennial displays, the Orchid Conservatory, the Garden’s walking trails, and natural areas. “I am honored to be selected as Director of Horticulture and Facilities for Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden,” said Wuilliez. “I hope to continue the vision of the Stowe family in developing a world class horticultural destination. My team and I will be managing every facet of the landscape and water features, expanding plant diversity, and establishing succession and sustainability in the garden. In addition, we will be broadening the Garden’s relationship with and impact in community organizations and townships.”
