Get Updated on the Progress of the Thread Trail

BELMONT, N.C. Representatives from Catawba Lands Conservancy (CLC) and the Carolina Thread Trail (The Thread) will be on-hand Tuesday, August 7, noon - 1 p.m., at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden to update the public on recent efforts to build a greenway along and near the Garden.

With funding from the Clean Water Management Trust Fund, Catawba Lands Conservancy preserved 77 acres near the Garden on Lake Wylie in 2011, providing a protective buffer for more than two miles of shoreline. This acquisition marked the beginning of a partnership between the Garden and CLC -- lead agency for The Thread.

This parcel of land, known as Seven Oaks Preserve, will host a 2.3 mile waterfront segment of The Thread, connecting with the Garden. The planned trail near the Garden will be a key connection that is part of a network of Thread Trail segments that are built, or being planned, along the South Fork of the Catawba River corridor to connect trails in South Carolina and North Carolina.

Andy Kane, land stewardship associate with CLC and Randi Gates, community coordinator with The Thread will be available to discuss this project, its progress and future plans for The Thread.

For more information about this and other events at the Garden visit: http://www.dsbg.org/events.php

First Tuesday presentations are free with Garden admission. Admission for members is free; adults, $12; seniors 60+, $10; and children 4-12, $6. Guests are encouraged to bring a bag lunch. For more information, visit www.DSBG.org or call 704-825-4490.
