Garden Offers Digital Photography Workshops

BELMONT, N.C. Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden offers its popular photography workshops in April with courses designed for a variety of skill levels; from beginners to experts who want to hone their skills, the Garden offers something for everyone.

In order to accommodate guests with different skill levels, the Garden offers classes from: Dave Kelly, owner of DEK photography, an internationally recognized wildlife photographer and an Adobe Certified Instructor and Phyllis Peterson, an award winning amateur photographer. These instructors and the classes they teach are noted below.
Lectures and demonstrations take place in the classroom, followed by an opportunity to practice newly learned skills out in the Garden. Upcoming classes include:
Advanced Photographic Metering, instructed by Dave Kelly, DEK Photography - Saturday, July 14, 9:30 a.m. noon. Gain an understanding of the toolsaperture, shutter speed and ISOand how they relate to each other to achieve perfect images in less than perfect lighting conditions. The instructed by will discuss both reflective (in camera) and incident (hand held) metering methods, as well as compensation and when and how to apply it. Includes both classroom and field instruction. This class is $50 for members and $60 for non-members.
Photographic Depth of Field, instructed by Dave Kelly, DEK Photography - Saturday, July 14, 1:30 4 p.m. This class provides photographers with an understanding of how depth of field can be used to improve images. Learn how to achieve this with a digital SLR cameraan excellent follow-up to the Basic Digital SLR class. This class is $50 for members and $60 for non-members.
Learning Your New Camera, Part I, instructed by Phyllis Peterson - Saturday, July 21, 1:30 - 4 p.m. Take the mystery out of photography as you learn the basics of operating your new camera and understanding its various functions and dials. Suited for point and shoot and/or digital SLR cameras. Bring your camera and any book or guide that came with it. Learning Your New Camera, Part II, is available July 28. This class is $50 for members and $60 for non-members
Learning Your New Camera, Part II, instructed by Phyllis Peterson - Saturday, July 28, 9 a.m. noon. Continue building your skills from Part I. Phyllis will conduct a quick review and then help participants build their beginning photography skills further. Learning Your New Camera, Part I, is available July 21. This class is $50 for members and $60 for non-members
Putting Your Photos on Your Computer, instructed by Phyllis Peterson - Saturday, July 28, 1:30 4 p.m. Learn what to do with all those images on your memory disk! Phyllis will demonstrate how to transfer and store them on your computer so that you can access and make use of them. This class is $50 for members and $60 for non-members.
