Something’s A-Flutter this fall at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. It’s a truly special event that includes the descent of thousands of butterflies to The Orchid Conservatory.
The lives of these remarkable and colorful creatures will be revealed from their unexplainable metamorphosis to the equally mysterious migration of the monarchs. The lush fall garden provides the backdrop for an engaging experience that will help guests understand the butterfly lifecycle, what it takes for them to survive, how to draw more butterflies to home gardens and much more.
The Garden expects Something’s A-Flutter to become an annual event. This year the exhibit opens with key interpretations that help guests understand why we find butterflies so engaging.
The Garden has developed exhibits and activities that teach guests about everything from the butterfly lifecycle, to the anatomy of a butterfly to what will make your butterfly garden a successful one. Each Saturday demonstrations, butterfly releases and a centerpiece chrysalis exhibit will allow guests to see how butterflies develop as never before.
Through the release of live butterflies and the hatching of chrysalis, the Conservatory will always be a-flutter with more than 1,200 butterflies, representing eight species native to North Carolina. While some of the population will be supported by the release of live butterflies others will emerge from chrysalides in the exhibit.
Outside, guests will have a chance to take a Butterfly Tour to learn more about them in their natural environment.
Wearing bright colors—orange, yellow and red--in the exhibit will encourage butterflies to approach guests and even land on them.
