Celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend with a festive 5K trail run at the Garden. The race will start at 9 a.m. at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden’s Persimmon Trail and continue through the Carolina Thread Trail’s Seven Oak’s Preserve Trail. (Trail run is a loop). Proceeds benefit the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
Registration is being held until February 9, 2017 or until the race is full. Race is limited to the first 250 participants. There are individual registration prices as well as couple registration prices available. Couples can be friends, spouses, significant others, best friends, co-workers, siblings, etc. Run with a buddy or challenge yourself!
Hearts-a-Bustin’ is the common name for the Euonymus americanusa plant native to the Southeastern US and we think that makes the perfect plant mascot for this race!
- All registrants will receive a free t-shirt
- Registered runners will receive free admission to the garden as well as 1 discounted guest pass which can only be used the day of the run
- Registration fees:
- Individuals will be $30 until the day of the race, then $40
- Couples will be $50 until the day of the race, then $60
- Both the male and female overall winner for the run will receive the following prizes:

What does Hearts-a-Bustin’ mean?
Hearts-a-bustin’ is a native plant, a wildflower of the United States that is also nicknamed the “strawberry bush”.
Where will the 5K go?
The race will start at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden’s Persimmon Trail and continue through the Carolina Thread Trail’s Seven Oak’s Preserve Trail. (Trail run is a loop).
Can I walk the 5K?
In order to announce awards in a timely manner, walking the full race route is limited to 60 minutes. This is a trail run with a wave timed start.
Will there be an early packet pickup?
Yes, and this is encouraged. Early packet pick up will be Friday, February 10th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Garden admissions desk, 6500 S. New Hope Road, and on race day beginning at 8:00 am. You can pick up your friends bibs but must sign off their name.
Will I be able to visit the Garden after the race?
The Garden will be open until 5:00 pm for the runners to enjoy. Runners will receive free entry with their bib and one pass for a guest. However, there will be an admission fee for any other non-Garden members.
If registration is full, is there ANY way I can run the 5K?
Online registration will close on February 9th, 2017 at 11:59 pm. You can still register in person the day of the race.
Where should I park?
Parking will be available in the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden parking lot field. Attendants will be on hand directing parking. Signs will also indicate parking.
I am unable to attend the race? What should I do?
Unfortunately, race fees are non-refundable.
Can I wear headphones, run with my pet or push a baby stroller?|
Headphones are allowed, but please be aware and cautious of your surroundings. Keep in mind this is a trail run and is narrow. Pets and strollers are prohibited.
How many water stops are there?
There will be at least two water stops for the 5K.
